Daring Attack: Police van attacked, suspect freed

FAISALABAD: A robbery suspect was freed by six unidentified assailants, including a woman, from police custody on Monday from Khawaja Islam Road. Bilal Rana, facing robbery charges, was being taken in a van by a police party, headed by ASI Muhammad Ilyas, when they came under attack near Ghausia Park. Noorud Din, an eyewitness, said the attackers, carrying automatic weapons, opened fire on the police van. “They then took a man in handcuffs from the van and fled in a car and on motorbikes,” he said. ASI Ilyas said that the policemen were caught by surprise. RPO Muhammad Ehsan Tufail directed CPO Dr Sohail Habib Tajik to take action against the police team and submit an inquiry report.
