‘Encounter’: ‘Outlaw’ killed, two constables injured

Suspect’s accomplices taken into custody by the police.

A suspected outlaw was killed while two constables were injured in a shootout in Mansehra on Saturday.


City police said two patrolling officers of the Quick Response Force intercepted Salim, who was wanted in a number of cases.

They claimed the suspect opened fire and injured constables Ehtsham Shah and Muhammad Tayyab when they tried to arrest him on Chikriyali Road. The policemen fired back and Salim was killed in the encounter. Two of the deceased’s accomplices were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, two alleged robbers were shot dead while two policemen were injured in a shootout near a helipad in Naran Valley, Mansehra district on Friday.

Mansehra District Police Officer Khurram Rashid said they received an intelligence report about bandits looting several tourists near a helipad in Naran Valley. A police party was subsequently dispatched to the area under the supervision of Naran police SHO, added Rashid.

When the police approached the dacoits, the latter opened fire and a shootout ensued, said Rashid. “As result, two robbers were killed and two policemen, Azmatur Rehman and Akhlaq Hussain, were injured.”

The DPO said the injured policemen were rushed to a nearby hospital while the bodies of the deceased robbers were taken for a post-mortem. He added the identities of the deceased bandits could not yet be ascertained.

Police officials said they launched a search operation in the area, but no arrests were made till this report was filed.
