LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party Punjab Chapter President Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said on Tuesday that politicians had to unite to save democracy.

He was speaking to journalists after meeting with a delegation of party officials from Rawalpindi.

Wattoo said the present situation was a test for the politicians of the country. He said some people had cooperated with dictators in the past while others had strived for democracy. Wattoo said the latter had been subjected to witch hunts for their beliefs.  He said the independence of the judiciary had been compromised and fundamental rights had been violated under dictators.

He urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to accommodate Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s demands. Wattoo also urged Sharif to negotiate with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri to placate him. He said politicians should practice the policies of tolerance and consensus.
