Minister of commerce: Plans for fresh recruitments for NBP

Minister says employees of NBP have decreased to 13,528 from 15,598 in 2013

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan informed the Senate on Tuesday that there was a complete ban on fresh recruitments, adding that once the ban was lifted, vacant posts in various departments would be filled in a transparent manner. Replying to various supplementary questions during Question Hour, the minister said that employees of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) have decreased to 13,528 from 15,598 in 2013. To another query, the minister said that the NBP suffered Rs9 billion losses in Bangladesh during fiscal years 2006-2008. He said the person involved in this huge loss has acquired Bangladesh nationality. A team would be sent to Bangladesh to prosecute the person involved in the scam, he added. The minister said that presently no staff of a storage facility was on NBPs payroll, adding that no such staff was terminated during the year 2012-13.
