Fighting crime: Police, Rangers round up 33 suspects in separate raids

KARACHI: Law enforcers claim to have arrested 33 suspects in separate raids across the city on Sunday.

Rangers conducted a targeted raid in Bund Murad Goth, Manghopir, based on an intelligence report, and arrested two alleged members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The Rangers spokesperson claimed that the personnel also seized weapons from their possession, including four hand grenades, six rockets and ten detonators. The suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.



Earlier, Rangers also claimed to have arrested three members of a banned outfit during a raid in Sultanabad, Manghopir.

In a separate raid, Rangers claim to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in extortion at Nayabad, Lyari. The Rangers spokesperson said that the raid was conducted in response to a complaint, adding that the two suspects were arrested when they came to collect extortion money. The spokesperson also claimed that the personnel seized weapons and extorted money from their possession. Following their arrest, another alleged extortionist was arrested during a targeted raid in Khadda Market, Lyari. The Rangers spokesperson said that the raid was conducted acting on the information provided by the already arrested culprits, adding that a huge cache of illegal weapons including automatic rifles were also seized.

In another targeted operation in Landhi, the Rangers arrested nine suspects allegedly involved in extortion, target killings and other crimes. Weapons of various calibres, including sub machineguns (SMGs), 7mm rifles, grenades, repeaters and pistols were also seized.

Separately, the police also conducted a targeted operation in Pathan Colony and Bawani Challie in District West. The entry and exit points of the areas were closed off and no one was allowed to go in or out for the duration of the operation. The police apprehended a number of suspects and also seized weapons from their possession. The suspects included alleged militants and criminals. They were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning. District West SSP Irfan Baloch confirmed that a total of 16 suspects were taken into.
