Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra’s camaraderie as Jai and Veeru in cult film Sholay has been voted the best example of onscreen friendships in Bollywood, in a new survey.


Ahead of International Friendship Day (August 3), matrimonial website Shaadi.com conducted an online survey to find out what single Indian women felt about famous celebrity friendships. When they were asked to vote for the best onscreen friendships in tinsel town, 39.1 per cent of the 4,700 respondents voted for Jai and Veeru. It was followed by Anjali and Rahul (characters essayed Kajol and Shahrukh Khan) from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with 33.8 per cent votes.

On the third spot are Vijayalakshmi and Rani from Queen with 14.2 per cent. Vijayalakshmi was essayed by model-actor Lisa Haydon, and Rani was played effortlessly by Kangana Ranaut.

The top four were rounded up the 3 Idiots trio of Rancho, Raju and Farhan with 12.9 per cent. The roles were immortalised on screen by Aamir Khan, Sharnan Joshi and R Madhavan respectively.

“The results suggest that people are looking at celebrities as real people with real relationships. These are some of the most successful Bollywood relationships whose love and understanding for each other also makes them great friends,” Gourav Rakshit, COO, Shaadi.com, said in a statement.

Furthermore, a group of single Indian women want to see the sweet-and-sour camaraderie of Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan to turn sweet permanently, according another survey conducted to find out what India’s single women felt about famous celebrity friendships. Of the 4,700 responses received, 52.8 per cent voted for SRK and Salman, followed by actors Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra received 28.3 per cent votes and last but not the least, 18.9 per cent votes were for Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma.

The respondents were also asked to vote for the best among Bollywood’s mother-son and father-son relationships. As many as 61.9 per cent votes went to the friendly camaraderie between Neetu Singh and Ranbir Kapoor and 59.2 per cent votes for David Dhawan and Varun Dhawan.

Also, Shahrukh and his daughter Suhana’s friendship won a maximum of 67.8 per cent as far as Bollywood’s father-daughter relationships are concerned.

The survey also asked women about their favourite celebrity couples who are also great friends. 39.2 per cent voters chose Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, followed by Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan getting 37.3 per cent votes and 23.5 per cent voted for Sachin Tendulkar and Anjali Tendulkar.
