Independence Day: PNCA plans several celebratory events

The month-long activities include movie screenings, cultural shows, puppet shows, art exhibitions and stage plays

The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has prepared a series of events titled “Freedom Festival 2014” to mark the country’s 68th Independence Day. 


The month-long activities include movie screenings, cultural shows, puppet shows, art exhibitions and stage plays, stated a press release on Monday.

The council is screening the film “Jinnah” on a daily basis till August 14. The movie depicts the freedom struggle and life of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

A special puppet show for children will also be held from August 8 to August 10 at the Liaquat Memorial Hall, Rawalpindi at 5pm. The same show is scheduled at the PNCA auditorium on August 22 and 23 at 5pm.

Folk singers and dancers will perform at a cultural show at the PNCA auditorium on August 17 while children will contest in speech competitions, tableaus and national songs on August 19 at the council.

The council will also organise a portraiture competition for artists to draw portraits of the leaders of the independence movement. The competition will be held on August 20 at the National Art Gallery, Islamabad. A stage play will also be presented on August 20 and 21 at PNCA at 8pm.
