KARACHI:

Members of the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) are demanding that the government should reopen the case of Comrade Nazir Abbasi and punish those behind his murder.

NTUF activists and leaders protested outside Karachi Press Club on Friday to commemorate the 34th death anniversary of Comrade Nazir Abbasi, a socialist leader and trade unionist.

The protesters shouted slogans against the state, agencies, and alleged that Abbasi was tortured to death during the reign of former president Ziaul Haq.

The federation’s deputy general secretary, Nasir Mansur, said that the establishment has also tortured and killed people who raised their voices against communal differences and for democracy in the country. He believes that the only way to end lawlessness in the country is to reopen the cases of political activists and punish those involved.
