Govt establishes Crisis Management Cell to evacuates expats in Libya

Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli has already facilitated evacuation of over 2500 Pakistanis to Tunisia.

ISLAMABAD: As Libya descends further into chaos, government of Pakistan has established a crisis management cell at the ministry of foreign affairs to assist stranded Pakistanis in Libya.

According to a statement issued by the ministry of foreign affairs on Wednesday, a crisis management cell has been created to monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and to coordinate efforts for evacuation of Pakistanis.

The cell was created after the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the ministry to facilitate the evacuation of Pakistanis from Libya.

Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli in the last few days has already facilitated evacuation of over 2,500 Pakistanis to Tunisia.

The cell will be headed by a Director General and assisted by two directors, will operate round the clock with effect from afternoon of August 7, 2014.

All Pakistani missions in the region have been advised to make concerted efforts to assist Pakistanis evacuation from Libya through their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Pakistan Embassy at Tunisia has also set up a Camp Office at Zarzis near Ras-Jedir Check Post on the Libya-Tunisia border to assist transiting Pakistanis. A senior officer from the ministry is also being sent on a special assignment to strengthen the Embassy efforts.

All queries related to the situation of Pakistanis in Libya may be addressed to the crisis management cell of the ministry of foreign affairs, Islamabad.

Security situation in Libya has deteriorated over the past few days. Pakistan Embassy at Tripoli is assisting stranded Pakistanis to evacuate. Embassy in the last few days has already facilitated evacuation of over 2,500 Pakistanis to Tunisia.

As directed by the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating the efforts to facilitate evacuation of stranded Pakistanis in Libya. To monitor the evolving security situation in Libya and to coordinate efforts for evacuation of Pakistani Diaspora, a Crisis Management Cell (CMC), has been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad.

The CMC headed by a Director General and assisted by two Directors, will operate round the clock with effect from August 7, 2014.

Why not hire PIA airplanes for evacuation - they need the business.
