Shielding the destitute: Aid for heirs of deceased expats

Around 681 applications were received and all were paid financial assistance at the rate of Rs150,000 per applicant

ISLAMABAD: A sum of Rs455.422 million has been disbursed through the ministry for overseas Pakistanis and human resource development as a one-off financial assistance to 6,813 families of Pakistani nationals who died abroad. The assistance was provided under a scheme introduced by the Overseas Pakistan Foundation (OPF) to ensure financial assistance to destitute families of overseas Pakistanis in the event of death or disability. According to the ministry, 681 applications were received and all were paid financial assistance at the rate of Rs150,000 per applicant on which Rs102.15 million were spent during the current financial year (2013-14).
