Shot dead: Criminal gunned down

The men fled when police returned fire.

BAHAWALPUR: Police said on Saturday a man in their custody had been killed in an exchange of fire with his accomplices. The deceased was identified as Wahid Murad. Police claimed that the man had been involved in murder and robberies. Murad had been arrested by a police team from Cantt after a shootout. He was held at Khairpur Tamewali police station. Police said he was being taken to identify some criminals and retrieve an arms cache when three armed men shot at the police team near Khairi Qotlam Khan village. The men fled when police returned fire. Murad was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
