The twin cities continued to be lashed by heavy rains on Friday for the second day in running and turned pleasant the erstwhile summer weather. According to the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), 54 millimetres (mm) of rain was recorded at Chaklala, 22mm in Shamsabad, 71mm in Saidpur, 22mm in Golra and 38mm at Zero Point .


Zameer Abbas, an official at the PMD, told The Express Tribune that the downpour is expected to continue till Tuesday with temperatures remaining between 24 degrees centigrade to 26 degrees centigrade. On the other hand, due to the heavy rainfall in catchment areas, water level at the Rawal Lake exceeded over 1751.10 feet. The dam’s spillways were opened to discharge the surplus water, according to Rana Bilal, Sub-Divisional Officer of the Small Dams Organisation at Rawal Dam.
