Clarification: PTA says policy making not its domain

PTA says it is a regulatory body of the telecom sector and devising policies is not its domain.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday said that it is a regulatory body of the telecom sector and devising policies is not its domain. “Apropos a news item titled, ‘New telecom policy likely to be finalised by September,’ published in The Express Tribune on July 24, it is clarified that the new telecom policy draft has been finalised by the MoIT, not by the PTA, as devising policies is a domain of the MoIT,” the authority said.  The regulator further clarified that the ministry has sought comments of various stakeholders, including PTA, on the policy. The comments on the draft policy are being compiled by PTA and the industry and would be sent to MoIT for onward finalisation of the policy by the consultants hired by MoIT for this purpose.
