PESHAWAR: A former candidate for NA-46 (Fata) was gunned down by unidentified attackers on Ring Road in Pishtakhara on Thursday. According to the police, Bismillah Jan, a resident of Khyber Agency living in Tajabad, was going to his timber warehouse when assailants sprayed his car with bullets near Bannu House. Jan was severely wounded and succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. An FIR was lodged against unidentified attackers on the complaint of Jan’s brother Qismatullah Jan. “This man was really close to MNA Nasir Khan Afridi, evident from the fact that Jan withdrew in favour of Afridi from the NA-46 race,” a police official told The Express Tribune. The deceased had a timber business, he added. The police suspect Jan was killed when he refused to pay extortionists.
