LAHORE:

Police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of raping and killing his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter in Nishter Colony. His father, brother and mother have been arrested for abetting the crime. Nishter Colony police said the man had confessed to the crime. The girl had gone missing on July 6. Her body was found lying on the roof of a neighbour’s house the next day. Her family filed a complaint with the Nishter Colony police.

CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed had taken notice of the incident and directed Model Town Investigation Superintendent Muhammad Nadeem to trace the criminals on priority. Nadeem constituted a police team headed by Nishter Colony DSP Iqbal Ahmed Shah. Police said initially it appeared as if the child had died of an electric shock, but a post-mortem examination revealed that she had been raped several times prior to the electrocution.

Police arrested the man on whose roof the child’s body was found. Initial interrogation indicated that his son, who was deaf and dumb, had committed the crime. The man confessed that they had electrocuted the child to cover up his son’s crime. Police acquired the services of an expert in sign language to question the son who confessed that he had raped the girl and later electrocuted her and left her body on the roof to make it appear as if she had accidently touched electric wires passing over the roof. Police have arrested the man, his father, brother and mother. CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed has announced cash awards and certificates for the police team.
