RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has allocated Rs60 million for a new emergency department at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

The district government has acquired BBH land where the emergency department is located for the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus project.

“Now, a new emergency department will be established at another site for which the provincial government has allocated Rs60 million.

Construction will start soon,” said BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir on Sunday.

Mir said the hospital will also have a new CT scan facility next month at a cost of Rs 55 million. The current CT scan machine has been dysfunctional for more than two years.

Private laboratories, hospitals and clinics charge up to Rs9,000 and 12,000 for plain and contrast CT scans, respectively. Once the new machine is installed, the hospital will offer the facility for Rs1,600 and Rs2,800.
