Illegality: Man held for bulk currency smuggling

The customs authorities seized the money after the accused failed to provide documents.

ISLAMABAD:


Customs officials have intercepted a man for alledgedly attempting to smuggle foreign currency in his luggage at the Benzair Bhutto International Airport.


The man, who was identified as Chaudhry Altaf, was intercepted after he was found to be carrying 40,000 Canadian dollars in his luggage.


The accused, who was intending to go to Toronto via Kuwait Air Lines flight (KU-206), was holding dual nationality passports of Canada and Pakistan.


The customs authorities seized the money after the accused failed to provide documents proving his right to move such a large amount of cash. A case against the accused was registered at the Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad.
