Youm-e-Ali: Pillion riding, cellular services to be barred in multiple cities

Pillion riding banned in eight cities of the country while mobile phones to be partially barred in five cities.

Ahead of Youm-e-Ali, security has been beefed throughout the country with a ban on pillion riding, and partial closure of cellular services has been instituted in multiple cities for Sunday, Express News reported.

According to details, respective provincial governments have imposed a ban on pillion riding in eight cities and instituted a partial shut down of mobile services in five cities.

In Sindh, mobile services will remain shut in Karachi from 4am in the morning to 11pm in the evening on Sunday. Pillion riding has been banned in Karachi and Sukkur for three days.

In Punjab, pillion riding has been banned in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan and Lahore. Mobile phone services will remain shut in Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala and Lahore.

In Balochistan, pillion riding will remain banned in Quetta and some other provincial areas declared as sensitive.

Tight security measures have been put in place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa where the security apparatus has been put on high alert in Peshawar. However, no ban has been instituted there.
