Development: Shahbaz approves two park projects

Greater Iqbal Park project to highlight Lahore’s cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday approved the Greater Iqbal Park project and the construction of a butterfly house in Jallo Park.


The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) director general gave a detailed briefing on the projects. “The Greater Iqbal Park Project will play an important role in highlighting the importance of cultural heritage of Lahore. It will be a unique park,” Shahbaz said.

The chief minister said the historical importance of Minar-i-Pakistan, Badshahi Masjid and Lahore Fort would be highlighted under the project.

He directed the officials to highlight the prominent features of Mughal architecture in the Greater Iqbal Park project. “Landscaping of the project should be carried out along modern and as well as traditional patterns. Services of international consultants should be hired for the purpose,” the said.

He said a lake should be developed at the park and exotic trees should be planted to enhance the beauty of the park.

“The project should be completed in a transparent manner. It will provide visitors international-level facilities,” he said. The CM also approved the construction of a butterfly house in Jallo Park. He directed the officials to provide the best facilities at the botanical garden in the park.
