LAHORE:

The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has demanded land for parking at the Aiwan-i-Adl court complex.

Thousands of lawyers and visitors come to Aiwan-i-Adl daily and park their cars and motorcycles around the building.

The parked vehicles occupy part of the Lower Mall. A single lane of the road is left for traffic during office hours.

There are four to five rows of parked motorcycles alone.

Muhammad Zeeshan, a lawyer, said there was no alternative site for lawyers to park their vehicles.

Lahore Bar Association (LBA) General Secretary Saleem Ladhi told The Express Tribune on Sunday that they had informed former Lahore High Court registrar Mehboob Qadir Shah about the problem. “We told him that Auqaf department land located near Aiwan-i-Adl could be used for parking. He had assured us he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned. However, he was transferred before anything could be done,” Ladhi said.

The LBA secretary said the lawyers had also met the district coordination officer and asked him to take steps to resolve the problem, but nothing was done. “We are now planning to meet the Lahore High Court chief justice to resolve the issue,” he said.
