Crackdown: 156 shopkeepers challaned for overcharging

The district administration imposed Rs200,000 fines on shopkeepers for violating the Price Act.

The city government’s price control magistrates challaned 156 shopkeepers for overcharging customers on Wednesday.


The magistrates checked 1,037 shopkeepers in the city during a campaign against overcharging in Ramazan.

The CDGL special teams also lodged cases against 32 shopkeepers and sent six to jail after summary trials.

The district administration imposed Rs200,000 fines on shopkeepers for violating the Price Act. These teams, headed by assistant commissioners and town municipal administrators, visited shops and Ramazan Bazaars and inspected prices of commodities. The DCO directed price control officials to continue operation against hoarders to provide relief to the people during Ramazan.

This is not Law & Order! The authorities let loose the business owners to make hefty profit for this day. The problem is; Businesses will go back to old habits, because these officials will be absent for whole year again. This is just a show to please people for a short while. I ask; who moved these inspectors today from their seats and why he could not make them do this before? See! There is the problem.
