Encounters and arrests: Three suspects killed, over three dozen others arrested

CPLC and AVCC rescue 20-year-old woman who was kidnapped from Faisalabad.

Three alleged criminals were killed in separate encounters with the police, while over three dozen others were arrested from different parts of the city on Wednesday.


An alleged gangster was killed in an encounter with the police and Rangers in Daryabad, Lyari. The encounter occurred when the law enforcers conducted a joint raid at the gangsters’ hideout. The gangsters opened fire at the law enforcers and attempted to flee from the site. Lyari SSP Sheraz Nazeer told The Express Tribune that one of the suspects was killed in the crossfire. He was later identified as Abdullah alias Haji Dad. SSP Nazeer said that he was affiliated with the Shakil Badshah group of Lyari gangsters and was involved in various cases of targeted killings and extortion.

In a separate incident, two suspects were killed in an encounter with the police at Sohrab Goth. Police officials said that the encounter occurred when at least four criminals were looting passersby near Jamali Morr. The suspects opened fire at the police patrol team in an attempt to escape. In the retaliatory fire by the police, two of the suspects were shot dead. DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the deceased appeared to be of Afghan origin, but they were yet to be identified. Their bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth. Separately, a wanted criminal was arrested from Sher Shah. Police officials said that the accused, Jangrez alias Chohta Pathan, was arrested in an injured condition after an encounter with the police. He is affiliated with a gang and was wanted by the police in several cases of murder, kidnappings and robbery.

Meanwhile, the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), in collaboration with the Anti-Violent Crime Cell, rescued a young woman from Sacchal, District Malir. The woman had gone missing from Faisalabad. One suspect was also arrested during the raid.

Twenty-year-old R*, a resident of Faisalabad, was kidnapped on July 2 earlier this year. Her kidnapping case was registered at the Millat Town police station in Faisalabad. CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy said that after receiving the complaint from Faisalabad CPLC, a joint team of CPLC and AVCC made joint efforts to trace the woman. A raid was conducted in Rind Goth, Sacchal, from where they successfully rescued R*.

Special Investigation Unit claims to have arrested three suspects in a targeted raid at Sharae Quaideen. The accused were identified as Akbar, Naveed alias Naveedi and Danish alias Rehan. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said that the suspects were involved in various cases of murders and robberies. He said that one of the arrested suspects, Akbar, was also involved in the targeted killing of the EOBI assistant director, Qamar Abbasi, in 2013.

Meanwhile, 28 suspects were arrested in an operation against criminals in Hub. ASP Sardar Mavarhan Khan said that a huge cache of weapons and extortion money was seized during the operation.
