KARACHI:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the women’s teams for the upcoming tour to Australia and the 17th Asian Games, which will be held in Incheon, Korea.

The tour of Australia will run from August 15 to September 6, while the Asian Games will be held from September 17 to 28.

Sana Mir will lead the side on both tours and Bismah Maroof has been named as her deputy.

The squad for tour of Australia comprises Sana (captain), Bismah (vice-captain), Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Nida Rashid, Javeria Wadood, Asmavia Iqbal, Marina Iqbal, Aliya Riaz, Qanita Jalil, Sumaiya Siddiqui, Maham Tariq, Sania Iqbal and Sadia Yousuf.

Rabiya Shah, Nahida Khan, Sidra Amin, Anam Amin and Iram Javed have been named for reserves.

The training camp of the team will be held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore from August 5 to 14.

Women’s team chief selector Farrukh Zaman stressed that giving a tough time to Australia would be enough for Pakistan even if they fail to win.

“The time has come that we start playing against top sides regularly if we are to improve our playing standard,” Zaman told The Express Tribune.

“If we make things difficult for Australia, that alone will be no less than a victory for us.”

Talented all-rounder Kainat in for Asian Games

The PCB women’s wing has finally recalled talented all-rounder Kainat Imtiaz after neglecting her for several tours despite outstanding performances.

The 22-year-old Kainat, who is one of the most promising players, was not being given a chance to showcase her potential and has only played one T20 international and one ODI.

“Kainat is a bright prospect for Pakistan because of her excellent all-round ability,” said Zaman.

“She can definitely improve our squad because she bowls decent medium pace and has a good command over batting as well, while Anam [Amin] is also a good left-arm spinner and can prove beneficial in the Korean conditions.”

The team for Asian Games is Sana (captain), Bismah (vice-captain), Nain Fatima, Sidra (wk), Nida, Javeria, Asmavia, Marina, Aliya, Kainat, Sumaiya, Qanita, Sanial, Anam and Sadia.

Rabiya, Maham, Iram and Nahida have been named in reserves.
