Judge threatening case: FIR does not attract anti-terror law says prosecutor

KARACHI:

The police were told on Saturday to approach the sessions court to issue search warrants for the arrest of a special branch inspector, who had allegedly threatened a sessions' judge in open court.

Abdul Maroof, the special public prosecutor at the anti-terrorism court-III, told this to inspector Ejaz Mughal, who is investigating the case.

The City Courts police had booked Inspector Manzoor Siddiqui of the Crime Branch-II Karachi in FIR No. 84/2014 under Sections 506-B and 228 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. The police alleged that Siddiqui had pointed a gun and hurled threats of dire consequences to the sessions judge, Aslam Chandio, during a hearing on July 4.

On Saturday, the IO filed an application with the special prosecutor's office demanding a search warrant as he fears the suspect has gone into hiding somewhere in his native town of Hyderabad.
