ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court reinstated Muhammad Malick as Pakistan Television Corporation’s (PTV) managing director on Friday, barely four days after the Islamabad High Court ruled that his appointment was illegal.

A two-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard Malick’s appeal against the IHC ruling. Qazi Mustafa Kamal, PTV’s director for special assignments, had challenged Malick’s appointment.

During the hearing, advocate Akram Sheikh appeared on behalf of Muhammad Malick and argued the case.

The petitioner’s counsel contended that the impugned judgment wrongly held that heads of public sector organisations must have at least a master’s degree and that the demand for only a bachelor’s degree was ‘manipulated’ and ‘manoeuvred’.

“No evidence was presented before the court to show that  the heads of public sector organisations are required to have ‘at least a Master’s degree,” he said.
