Govt issued notice over purchase of bulletproof cars, sniffer dogs for PM

The hearing, at the LHC, has been adjourned till July.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the federal government over a petition questioning the acquisition of bulletproof cars and sniffer dogs for the Prime Minister House.

Advocate Syed Feroze Shah Gillani filed the petition, saying Rs120 million would be spent on the purchase of bulletproof cars and Rs2.4 million for the dogs. Besides this, a huge sum was also being spent on renovations and decoration of the PM house, he added.

The petitioner said that the use of the public exchequer for personal luxury and comfort on behalf of a ruler is not permissible in Islam. He stated that the country’s economy is in deep recession, while those ruling are spending a large amount of money from the national exchequer to make their lives even more luxurious.

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan observed that money was allocated in the budget for these expenses. However, he directed the government to prepare a response in the next hearing on July 14.
