LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday decided to abolish 'quota' system in 12 public universities of the province, Express News reported.

The move comes a few days after country's prestigious education institution Aitchison College announced the end of its long standing tradition of providing admissions to relatives of VVIPs through a 'quota' system.

The 'quota' system gives extra powers to the vice chancellors of the universities.

The provincial government has also asked the education department to abolish the 'quota' system in Punjab colleges as well.
