Punjab Prisons Inspector General Mian Farooq Nazeer said on Friday the department had completed the construction of 54 houses in prisons of Lahore, Faislaabad, Rawalpindi and Multan where prisoners could live with their families.
During inspection of prisons in Sahiwal, he said similar houses were being constructed in Gujranwala, Mianwali, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal. Nazeer said prisons in Okara, Pakpattan and Sahiwal had been declared “maximum-security prisons”. “We are spending Rs900 million to make the security of these prisons foolproof.” He said the department was planning to shift 876 dangerous prisoners from across the province to these three prisons.
