Helping hand: PPP to arrange relief goods for IDPs

The top leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has directed all the district heads of the party to arrange for the emergency provision of relief goods for displaced persons from North Waziristan Agency (NWA).

A number of truckloads of essential items have been arranged by PPP leaders belonging to Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock, Jehlum and Chakwal. This was said by PPP Divisional Head Raja Imran Ashraf, former federal minister Sardar Saleem Haider and PPP Punjab Council member Gulzar Awan during a meeting held here on Thursday, said a press release.

Ashraf and Haider said that all the district heads were directed by the party leadership to make immediate contact with affluent party workers to help the IDPs. They said that the PPP would provide urgent humanitarian aid and food supplies to more than 50,000 families living in camps in Bannu. Haider said that a team of doctors along with medicines would also be arranged to provide healthcare facilities to the IDPs. He also appealed to the philanthropists to come forward and shoulder their responsibilities to help the displaced persons.

Awan said that the war against terrorists in the NWA was to create a safer future for the country. “As the numbers of internally displaced persons are swelling, our top leadership has directed us to step forward to provide relief to the IDPs,” he added.

Awan said that clean potable water, lifesaving drugs, crockery, tents, food items and other essential goods would be provided to the displaced persons. He said that a number of trucks carrying relief items would be send as first consignment in the next few days.

“We will not leave the IDPs alone and helpless. We will take care of them till the operation against terrorists is over and the people are able to return to their homes,” Awan stated.

Great efforts for #IDPs of anywhere in world always need courage and appreciations. But as far as I am in Pakistan to work for IDPs of ZarbEAzb who are in Bannu - KPK, I've noticed a very low response from the nation. only KPK govt and armed forces are busy to give relief them. A lot of women & children are still awaiting for hope, care and proper shelter for them. I've noticed there're a lot of families who doesn't have there male (don't know the reason) still in worse condition and trying to catch money, food items, shelter for them but its sad to see everyone is busy here to play there role. A huge media campaign need to be introduce before it will be to late. Being a social worker and volunteer here at Bannu for IDPs I just wanna say try to save humanity before they'll become animal like us. Regards Faryal
