While the necessary notifications from the federal government are still pending, the Sindh government is adamant on removing Mehmood as Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police and has handed over his services to the Centre.
In a letter to the federal government, the Sindh government also stated that Ghulam Haider Jamali, the current additional IG Sindh, was being appointed acting IG of the province.
The letter included complaints about Mehmood purchasing expensive armoured personnel vehicles, Express News reported. Quoting senior police officer Shakib Qureshi, it said that Mehmood lacked good command and control.
Mehmood was appointed the new police chief on April 7. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the appointment of Mehmood as the provincial police chief was approved by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Sources at PM House had said the provincial government had put forward three names for the post, while the federal government had singled out two other officials as well.
Following consultation with key aides, the prime minister had approved Mehmood’s name for the slot.

Provincial autonomy and 18th amendment was farce, Provincial Govts even dont have power to appoint IJ and Chief Sec. What a JOKE! Center is running the show.
It's a case of the big bad guy......removing the small bad guy. A lose, lose situation for the small guy......but then who cares for the small guy.
Very bad decision. He is one of the honest and upright officer which Feudal mentality can't tolerate. He should go to court and get stay order as this order is with Malafide intentions
Stop humiliating your police, for heavens sake
I have known Iqbal Mehmood since his posting as SP at Karachi, going back in the very early nineties, he is one of the very few dedicated senior police officers, Sindh has seen.
It was after long, that a gutsy officer leading his men from the front, like a true commander, was posted as I.G. Above all he was also popular among the the citizens and police rank and file.
It is pity to see a diligent and dedicated I.G removed from appointment in such a short stint, leaving Sindh and above all Karachi at the hands criminals. .
There is an urgent need to revamp the structure of police in this country. These posts of ig and dig serve no purpose in a policing unit as they are beyond the approach of the general public. Along with the decentralization of police, which should then be handed over to the mayors elected in a local government. No one should be hidden by the beuracratic quagmire and no one should be beyond reproach. It is time to make all these government officers into government servants of the public, which is how it should have been all along.
First Shahid Hayat and now Iqbal Mehmood... these guys must be doing something right.
Another one bites the dust. The game of musical chairs continues as another IG Sindh replaced. The morale of the force which is already at an all time low will deteriorate further. Whoever gets appointed as IG should get atleast a 3 year tenure as an army general gets. This will ensure stability and strengthen the department and lift the morale of the force. No initiative gets completed as the initiating IG gets replaced within 2-3 months.
PPP has issues with Iqbal Mehmood as well, maybe he was exercising more independence than what they can tolerate. They also removed Shahid Hayat and made no efforts to restore him who was a gem of an officer. Why is PPP hellbent on Destroying Sindh and Karachi
Bad editing . "Singh Government".
No honest Police officers will survive in this country...Farooq Leghari was removed due to his incompetency by SC & yet he is again being proposed by the Sind Govt...why ?
