RAWALPINDI:

The district administration has devised a plan to check tampering with weights and scales and other fraudulent practices in markets during Ramazan.

District authorities have set up around 20 Ramazan Bazaars across the district to ensure provision of edible items at controlled prices to the consumers.

“The labour department has constituted 28 squads comprising technical field staff for regular deployment in these Bazaars to inspect weights and scales on daily basis throughout Ramazan,” District Labour Officer Liaquat Ali told APP Tuesday.

A special squad will be present at each Bazaar to ensure proper weight and redress customers’ complaints. Eight teams led by inspectors will regularly visit markets as well as special Bazaars.

District Labour Department held a training workshop last week for its field staff aimed at familiarising them to weights and scales and other instruments. Field officers from Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum attended the day-long workshop.

Ali said stern action will be taken against those found involved in fraudulent practices. He said if found tampered, the officials will confiscate weights and scales and will impose a fine of up to Rs10,000. He said cases can also be framed against violators.

Talking to APP, a number of customers called for strict implementation of the rules and action against profiteers.
