KARACHI: The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) new reforms have yet again favoured Pakistan as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi gained a position in the newly formed Executive Committee (ExCo).

The ExCo comprises five members with representation from India, England and Australia. Pakistan has been elected as the fourth and the West Indies is the fifth member of the committee.

Sethi said that Pakistan’s representation in the committee is a big boost.

“It’s good news for the people of Pakistan,” said Sethi. “Our representation on the ExCo would ensure that the country remains involved in important decisions concerning the game of cricket.

“Pakistan now holds an important and undisputed position within the top echelons of the cricketing fraternity.”

The ExCo will have a number of committees reporting to it and will deal with important matters like constitution, corruption, ethics, integrity and development. This will be the core committee of the ICC which will meet as frequently as required to assist and advise the ICC Board on the operational, management and administrative activities.

Revival of Pak-India series greeted on both sides

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB have welcomed the resumption of cricket ties between the two archrivals as they agreed to playing six bilateral tours between 2015-23.

The two boards have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) detailing the tours, with the first tour scheduled for December 2015 to be hosted by the PCB at a mutually agreed venue.

Commenting on this development, BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel said, “We recognise that there is no other contest in world cricket as exciting as an India-Pakistan series. Sports fans of both the countries eagerly look forward to these tours as they promise to be one of the most anticipated sporting events in the world.”

On the other hand, Sethi was delighted with the revival and hoped that such series will be played on regular basis.

“We’re delighted to announce the revival of Pakistan-India series, which we wish to hold on a regular basis,” he said. “I am happy that the PCB has been able to execute an MoU with the BCCI for these bilateral tours. We will be announcing the schedule and other arrangements regarding these tours at the earliest. I’m confident that the cricket fans of Pakistan will look forward to these exciting contests.”

"The ICC Executive Committee will be chaired by Australia’s Wally Edwards and will also have England’s Giles Clarke.

The duo’s election was approved by the ICC Board, under the chairmanship of Srinivasan, during the ICC Annual Conference weekend in Melbourne.

India, England and Australia have permanent representatives on the five-member committee, while the other two members will be elected from the ICC board on an annual basis."
