PESHAWAR: This is with reference to Yasser Latif Hamdani’s article of April 16 ‘A case for more provinces’. I think this would be a step in the right direction – and at just the right time. I say the latter because our legislators have shown a lot of maturity in passing the 18th amendment and perhaps they could also do something on this matter. The arguments in favour of more provinces are many: for instance, they will be administratively manageable and would allow for a more balanced representation in the federation with an equitable distribution of resources. And last but not least it will actually end up strengthening the federation because it will reduce the power of one dominating province.
