The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday completed arrangements for today’s (Friday) rally in Bahawalpur, as party leaders claimed to hold a momentous event.
PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry said the public meeting at the Bahawalpur Dring Stadium would be a historic gathering. “During the rally, the plan for the PTI’s movement for electoral reform will be announced,” he said.
Chaudhry warned the Punjab government not to stop the people from taking part in the rally. “The Punjab government and their agents should not try to do what they did at Model Town. Otherwise, the public will not spare them,” the PTI leader said.
He said the government opposed PTI rallies because it wanted to hide what happened during last year’s elections.
“Even the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) admitted that the NA-118 elections were rigged. Trash instead of ballot papers was found in more than 259 bags,” he said.
He said PTI had been trying to expose the true face of the government since the elections.
“Our claims have been borne out by the Punjab government’s murder of innocent people in Model Town,” the PTI leader said.
PTI Punjab General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid said the Bahawalpur rally would expose rigging during last year’s elections. “The rally will show the people of Pakistan that the biggest electoral fraud in the history of Pakistan was committed last year,” she said.
PTI Bahawalpur senior vice-president Sheikh Abbas Raza told The Express Tribune that they had finalised all arrangements for the public gathering.
“The stage has been prepared, while seats have also been put in place at Dring Stadium,” Raza said.
He said the PTI rally was earlier scheduled for July 22. “It was postponed due to the security situation in the country after the start of the military operation in North Waziristan,” he said.
Raza expressed satisfaction at the security being provided by the Bahawalpur police for the rally and its participants. However, he said party workers from Bahawalnagar had told him that police were stopping them from coming to Bahawalpur.
“Police have stopped public transport and impounded vehicles bringing the PTI activists from Bahawalnagar in order to spoil the event,” Raza said. He complained that police had established the parking far away from the stadium. “People will have to walk a long distance in the hot weather.
This is another attempt by the Bahawalpur police to discourage us,” he said.
The Bahawalpur police on Thursday issued a detailed security plan for the rally. According to the plan, two SPs, 16 DSPs, 51 inspectors, 2,000 police constables, including 38 women constables and 118 Elite Force personnel would be deployed to protect the participants.
Three entry points have been set up for journalists at the stadium. Walkthrough gates would be installed at these points. Police would search all participants before allowing them into the stadium.
Five parking areas have also been designated. A control room has been set up and 23 closed-circuit cameras would monitor the rally.
Bahawalpur Regional Police Officer Tahir Roy and Bahawalpur District Police Officer Sarfraz Falki would supervise the security arrangements.

@Kaleem: Big lies - Speak truth and remember how Allah will deal the liars.
@Kaleem: Please also add the money deals with the Chinese and Turkish companies, Indian steal mill owners and Bollywood deals for the Sharif's and their family members. These are big achievement of the current Noora League government. Then Congratulate Sharif's on their achievements.
@ H Chaudhry
NA 68 NS got 8000 vote from a village where registered voted are 1500 which have been declared as a typing error after 1 year. Have u ever hear that sorts of nonsense excuses being given by any Govt in the world??
Why don't we respect PMLN mandate?
Well PTI has accepted the election mandate despite everyone knows in fact it's not a genuine mandate. Only For the sake of Pakistan.
Plz read my comments above and answe if you can.
@Karima Shah:
Imran khan is Sharif brothers twin. Only hope for pakistan is army.
Lets look at NA 118. PMLN won the seat by 50,000 plus votes. Looks like about 15,000 or so are either forged or un verified. Lets assume all these 15,000 are for PMLN candidate. PMLN still winds by 35K plus votes.
This is one of the four constituencies IK is talking about! He is right about electoral reforms but why is he not respecting the PMLN VOTE ?
Just because a certain institution in Pakistan does not like PMLN / NS, the vote given to PMLN has no value?
PTI folks, honest question here and lets forget about about fraud vote for a second, PMLN still got huge vote, do you not respect it?
IK has till date spent Rs. 370 million on his entertainment caravan (Woodstock Love Festivals) disguised as a movement for electoral reforms and protest against rigging. These funds were put aside for free cancer treatment of poor patients but Pakistan now happens to be a cancer free state just like being a polio free country. Additionally, 7 days worth of rations could have been provided to all these displaced people for the aforesaid amount.
But wait a minute, in these gloomy and despondent times - one has to shake to the chorus of free music, transport and food, everyone and everything else be damned.
On one side, the nation is facing one of biggest war in its history with more soldiers that have been killed than any war it faced with neighbouring countries. PTI is interested in this road shows.. what a shame..
The KP Voters who voted are now the IDP`s. Children, women, old citizens are all hungry and staying in camps.. and the PTI is keen on protests... rather than trying to save them....
Imran Khan and his jalsas have become the biggest let down in politics. As a die-hard PTI supporter, I took a flight to Karachi in May 2013, 2 weeks before the end of my exams to come and vote for PTI, my first ever vote in a Pakistani election. I thought Imran Khan would have the guts not to accept a wrong, instead after the clearly rigged elections of 2013, Imran still went and accepted the results and made a laughing stock of himself by running around the same Election tribunal which was the creation of PML-N and PPP. Every few months he holds a jalsa and talks a good talk, but does not have the guts to take to the streets and bring down a government that should not be there in the first place, as it came from a stolen mandate. One thing is clear, like him or not, agree with him or not, Qadri has way more guts than Imran Khan - Imran is fast becoming another version of the Bhuttos and Sharifs.
@VINOD:
Thanks for your bleeding heart for IDPs. Now make some financial contribution to the relief fund set up by Imran Khan.
@Kaleem: Dear can you point out any one school in Lahore which meet the standard under Government supervision?
@Hassan:
Friend I concede that my arithmetical logic is of no value at all. I subscribe to your logic that IK and PTI won each and every seat across Pakistan and between planet Earth and Neptune.
@salman:
Please note that there are no by-elections taking place in that region at the moment. Most recently, IK addressed close to 5 jalsas in Abbottabad back-to-back while travelling on Jehangir Tareen's helicopter. NS even offered a government jet which would have allowed IK to undertake the visit of IDP camps with NS and travel straight to Bahawalpur to be part of PTI's Woodstock Festival, with more then enough time to spare. But hey, its a weekend after all and who'd want to miss out on some quality music and naach gana.
@pakistani: 'PTI leaders is this really the right time to do dharnas. Spend this time and energy on helping IDP’s" Very well said. They should do all that they can to IDPs and help to fight terror. I feel the cricketer in Imran Khan always wants attention, full stadiums and people clapping " Kya shot hai" He has no idea that how much is needed today to help fight terror and do constructive social work to make a happy Pakistan. Let him leave rallies and jalsas for next election time.
Most people here seem to have missed the fact that IK already visited the IDP camps a day or two after the operation started while PM was away on some foreign junket.
1) Only 15 applications have been filed by PTI in Punjab where PMLN won. Can PTI deny this? If it was biggest fraud elections in history, why they files just 15 applications in Punjab? 2) NS offered IK to visit Banu together to give strong message to TTP and IDPs, IK denied due to Bahawalpur rally. NS visit was scheduled in morning while the rally was scheduled in later evening. IK, for the country’s sake, leave this ego and think about Pakistan.
I think Imran should put efforts in KP to raise standards there and set an example for the rest of the country than making the people to run from city to city to show your 'strength". It is mocking the dignity of the people treating them like sheep! What has been achieved in your city gatherings except waste of national resources.
@Adnan Siddiqi
NADRA report and the report by Munir Mughal on NA 118 explain in detail the logic behind your arithmetic
Clear from the comments above that how PML(N) media cell operates, 100 billion funds over looked by the beloved daughter being put to "Good" use
@noorings: Hmm, thats interesting assumption bro, but we have seen in past that Lahore-Pwr motorway was not initiated due to IK's pressure. Moreover, NS did not order atomic tests on PTI's pressure :) Its harsh to conclude that bhasha dam, dasu dam, China corridor, Electricity projects, Gawadar etc are being initiated due to IK factor.
@Adnan Siddiqi:
Your analysis on voting are interesting but you fail to mention had PTI's candiadte contested on seats where they did not....they would have won those with huge margins.
Also we should not see elections as mechanism for electing our representatives but an opportunity to hold jalsas for introduction of latest technology in music and the art of dance and PTI is way ahead of PMLN on this.
It makes me laugh that some people seem to be saying why did IK not go to Bannu today to understand and provide relief to IDPs..........They dont even know that Bannu is not in KPK (which is ruled by PTI) while Bahalpur is .....and IK is keen to address the issues of the people which are under his rule as a top priority.....Hence the need for jalsa with entertainment facilities for youth
40C weather in Bahawalpur. We should see quite a few people faint in this sort of heat.
@LHR:
This nach gana gig will resonate so vividly that even though this circus would be happening in Punjab but the effects of it will have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of the displaced people in KPK. We must commend the entertainment visionary in our Kaptaan ;)
bhawalpur is not going any where ,take care of kpk especially IDPs .i ensure u that if u have not chaged ur attitude u will never wi again from KPK
Those criticising IK for holding jalsa should think twice as they do not seem to be loyal to IDP issue. IK's strategy is to collect loads of chanda through this jalsa and then invest it in one of the offshore companies managed by his close friends.........double the money over a 10 year period and then give it all to IDPs for emergency relief worked required there now.
Great effort by IK as people are getting depressed because of IDP situation a jalsa with a bit of halla gulla and some dance gana will get the people particularly IDPs out of the depression mode.
@Kaleem: If there hadn't been IK's pressure on the Sharif Bros, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have initiated a penny's worth of project in this country. I find the justification for slow progress totally lame as many other countries have risen from the rubble in a space of few years. We, are getting deeper into the rubble with each passing day. Development is not metro buses, new islamabad, and laptops, but it is focused education and medical reforms throughout the country, giving power to the local bodies and increasing the tax net. These are the primary agents of change. PMLN's policies are fascist.
Electoral reforms Imran Khan is pursuing will go a long way to strength democracy in the country. The Government has tried to hide away from the dhandli they have done in the elections. It is high time to expose this corrupt patwaris and strengthen the election process.
@Aalia:
If the Mustafavafi Inquilab-e-Canada can demand a security cordon of Pakistan Army and Corp Commander Lahore to receive him at the airport, surely our poor man's Che Guevara deserves 2,300 men - notwithstanding his hypocrisy that he was always against such protocols and pomp.
A party which got a proverbial boot out of Bahawalpur in 2013 at the hands of PML-N, will now be crying about rigging. For y'alls eyes only:
NA-183 Bahawalpur 1 Syed Hassan Ali Gilani - PML-N = 61,891 votes Zuqmain Bhautto - PTI = 197 votes PML-N Lead = 61,891
NA-184 Bahawalpur II Mian Mujib - PML-N = 94,429 votes No Opponent Clean sweep by PML-N
NA-185 Bahawalpur III M. Baligh-ur-Rehman - PML-N = 88,379 No opponent Clean sweep by PML-N
NA-186 Bahawalpur VI Riaz Hussain Pirzada - PML-N = 74,491 Chaudhry Naeem-ud-Din Warraich - PTI = 52,958 PML-N Lead = 21,353
NA-187 Bahawalpur V Saud Majeed - PML-N = 88,872 Aftab Ahmed - PTI = 360 PML-N Lead = 88,512
I know that IK would never think along these lines but it is extremely imperative for the cult worshiping herd to take an exit out of Lala Land as early as possible.
Successful democracy is based on strong institutions. PML-N, owing to its dictatorial mindset and lack of tolerance has made every institution in Pakistan its slave. Elections Commission, NADRA, Police, PEMRA, Judiciary, to name a few prominent examples. Khan's struggle, reveals the dark face of so-called champions of democracy of Pakistan. Bring it on Khan, the nation stands with you!!!
Goes on to show how PTI places its own interests over national, and once again lack of maturity on their part. Instead of showing magnanimity of spirit, putting all hostility on the back burner till the IDP situation stabilises, IK wants to create more agitation.
PTI leaders is this really the right time to do dharnas. Spend this time and energy on helping IDP's
2300 security men for 'awami leader'?
PTI, true to its character, always keeps criticizing. 2000+ policemen are deployed for the rally. Establishing parking little far seems due to security reasons. They are complaining about police stopping people, but by the evening, it will prove wrong. If the people make it to the rally, it means there were no restrictions.
IK, for the country's sake, leave this ego and think about Pakistan.
Your energies are directed at ' big shows '....which you have demonstrated you can do. Now its time to take the next step otherwise the impression given is that you don't know what to do next.
Bhasha dam, Dasu dam, 24000 MW projects, 4.1 growth rate, better economic reserves, Operation NWA, better prospect of ties with India and world....
On the other side, Isb rally, Sialkot rally, Fsb Rally, Bahawalpur rally.
