Separate incidents: IED blast kills khasadar official in Mohmand

Militants target gas pipeline on Peshawar-Shabqadar Road.

SHABQADAR: A khasadar official was killed on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Qayumabad, Safi tehsil of Mohmand Agency.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Jamshed Khan told The Express Tribune that officials of the khasadar force were patrolling Qayumabad around 9:30am when an IED planted by unidentified militants exploded.  As a result of the blast, khasadar Ali Khan died on the spot.

Jamshed added officials of the political administration along with law-enforcement agencies rushed to the site and began a search operation.

“Three suspects were arrested and handed over to a joint interrogation team, while 19 were sent to the lock-up of Ghallanai political administration,” he said.

Later, Political Agent of  Mohmand Khushal Khan visited the deceased official’s house and participated in his funeral. The APA also announced a compensation package for the fallen official’s family.

In a separate incident in Charsadda, unidentified militants blew up a  gas line near Kabul River at Haji Zai, Peshawar-Shabqadar Road. As a result, supply was suspended the entire day.

The staff of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited was able to repair the duct after nearly 12 hours of efforts.
