The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology banned the sale and import of 23 food items, which contained Haram ingredients, said Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi late on Friday.
In a meeting with retail stores’ representatives, Siddiqi announced the decision to ban 23 items and asked to remove their stocks from the market, sources familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune.
It was also learned that Customs have dispatched letters to officials deployed at all airports and sea ports of the country, instructing them to restrict the products’ entry to Pakistan.
The federal ministry conveyed this instruction to all provincial chief secretaries through letters on May 5, sources said.
The products that have been banned by the Pakistani authorities were imported from the US, England, France, Holland, Denmark, Spain and Indonesia, sources said.
The objectionable ingredients, according to documents available with The Express Tribune, include gelatin, mechanically slaughtered chicken, white wine, red wine and cochineal.

These products include Knorr Pasta Creamy Chicken, Knorr Chicken Broccoli, Knorr Rice Chicken, Tulip Chicken, Kellogs Pop Tarts, Heinz Chicken, Jell-O, Yupi Strawberry, Yupi Gummi Pizza, Yupi Fruit Cocktails, Batchelors Cup-a-Soup, Knorr Chicken Soup, Batchelors Slima Soup, Picnic Chicken, Skittles Fruit, Pascual Yogikids, Chupa Chups Bubble, Rago, Bubblicious strawberry splash, Chicken Tonight, etc.
I doubt that the number of items are more than 23

Though the ministry of S&T has nothing to do in this regard...it is the duty of ministry of Commerce & they seem to be in deep slumber...this is Pakistan...no wonder we are in such a mess....

Isn't this the food department's job?
Having grown up in the Mid East and lived in North America for a decade, I always check labels on food items. I have noticed at least 15 different products all the way from lucky charms cereal (gelatin) to white wine vinegar, several sauces, cookies, etc at al fateh (regular shopper there) I always wonder why they are sold here- ignorance or no one cares?
