Cooperatives Minister Iqbal Channar said on Friday the government had allocated Rs3.92 billion in the budget for the provision of health services in southern Punjab.
Speaking to a group of citizens at his residence, the minister said Rs207.4 million would be spent on upgrading the intensive care unit of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), Bahawalpur. Another Rs203.6 million would be spent on building four operation theaters.
Channar said Rs703.9 million had been allocated for the construction of a cardiac surgery block and Rs701 million to upgrade thalassaemia and bone marrow transplant centres. The minister said Rs1.48 billion had been earmarked for the development of Civil Hospital Jhangiwala, Bahawalpur. Rs199.469 million would be spent on establishing a coronary care unit and introducing angiography facilities at Shaikh Zayed Medical College.
