Neelum-jhelum project: Civil work on main tunnel completed

MUZAFFARABAD: Civil work on the main tunnel of the Neelum-Jhelum project has been completed on Tuesday.  On the completion of the six kilometers long tunnel from Chattar Klas to Majhoiei, a ceremony was held at Majhoie. The ceremony was attended by Water and Power Development Authority Chairman General (R) Zubair, Project Manager Fang Shung lang, Wapda officials and workers of the project.  On successful completion, Zubair congratulated the workers and hoped that the project would be completed by 2015, adding 960MW to the national grid. He appreciated the hard work of the Chinese engineers and workers, “the target was achieved due to their expert skill and modern technology,” he said. The two rivers, Neelum and Jhelum would be diverted through an underground tunnel, which will be interlinked with other tunnels where the turbines will be installed.
