ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has stressed the need for developing comprehensive policy guidelines for achieving sustainable growth and value addition in cotton crop. The minister said it was imperative to devise a common agenda in consultation with all stakeholders in order to take steps for the promotion of cotton crop in the country. He was addressing a gathering of agricultural scientists, farmers and growers during the Pakistan Cotton Consultative Conference organised by the Ministry of Textile Industry here. Bosan said cotton was the lifeline of Pakistan’s agricultural economy and deserved specific focus. However, over the last few years, productivity of cotton crop had become stagnant and the farming community generally expressed concern over low prices of raw cotton (phutti), noted the minister.
