Khair Bakhsh Marri passes away

Marri, 86, was admitted in Liaquat National Hospital on June 6 and had been in a critical condition.

KARACHI: Veteran Baloch nationalist Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri passed away late Tuesday night, the family confirmed to The Express Tribune.

His son, Nawabzada Jangayz Marri, who is the provincial leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Balochistan and is also the provincial minister for irrigation and energy, confirmed his death. He however, did not confirm where the Marri tribe’s leader would be laid to rest but sources revealed that he would be buried in his native city, Kohlu.

Marri, 86, was admitted in Liaquat National Hospital on June 6 and had been in a critical condition. The family wanted to take him to London for treatment but the doctors advised against Marri undertaking such a long journey.

According to Nawabzada Jangyz, he had suffered brain hemorrhage. Marri was admitted in the ICU and didn’t recover and was pronounced dead on Tuesday night.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, MQM chief Altaf Hussain and other political leaders offered their condolences to the family.
