Two kidnapped residents of the Ashraf Mahar village in the Ghotki district, Khalid Korai and Allah Bachayo Mahar, were recovered from Shikarpur on Monday evening.

Lured by a feminine voice over the phone, both the persons were kidnapped on June 3. According to police sources, they were able to find out where the kidnapped men were being kept by tracing their phones. Police raided and cordoned off the house in Shikarpur where they were being held, after which shots were exchanged between the police and the kidnappers.

The police further claimed that, taking advantage of the darkness, the kidnappers managed to escape, leaving the kidnapped men behind. Police sources said that the kidnappers had demanded Rs3 million for their release but were recovered without payment of any ransom amount.

There are many criminals gangs in the Ghotki and Shikarpur districts that use women to establish trust with people by talking to them over the phone and then ask them to come to a certain place in order to meet up. When that person reaches that place, he is then taken hostage by armed men.
