KARACHI:

Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) Senior Vice Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani has said that the industry is shocked over the government’s attitude of completely ignoring its budget proposals.

Kewlani said the government has overlooked the industry’s problems, which earns the second highest foreign exchange earnings for the country.

He said that his association had given proposals to increase country’s rice exports, but its recommendations were not included in the budget.

He said that rice exporters have been badly affected by the fluctuations in rupee-dollar exchange rate. Despite several meetings at the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce on this issue, the government did not honour any of its assurances in the budget.

He added that this only adds to the problems of the rice exporters.
