KARACHI: If you live in the DHA Creek Vista apartments or wish to go for a movie at the Nueplex cinemas, do not turn onto Khayaban-e-Shujaat from Khayaban-e-Ittehad from June 15 as the road is being converted to one-way.

Similarly, Khayaban-e-Shaheen has been converted to one-way and commuters may use the artery to make their way towards the Creek Vista apartments. The re-routing will mean that only the traffic travelling from Khayaban-e-Ittehad towards the Creek Vista Apartments will be able to travel along Khayaban-e-Shaheen, while those wishing to travel from Creek Vistas towards Khayaban-e-Ittehad will have to take Khayaban-e-Shujaat.

The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) claims that the step to make Khayaban-e-Shujaat one-way was in accordance with their master plan for Defence Phase VIII. "The step was taken to facilitate the increasing traffic in Phase VIII," the DHA spokesperson told The Express Tribune. He added that the DHA had recently received a number of complaints regarding traffic-related problems in the area which is why they decided to go ahead with the plan. "The re-routing is acceptable to the residents, traders and the public," he said.

The spokesperson added that the DHA was considering on implementing other traffic-calming steps, such as pedestrian crossings, in commercial areas. He said that more facilities would be provided in next stage after development work on Block-E of Phase VIII was completed.
