KARACHI: The technology industry of Pakistan has won seven awards in six different categories in the 10th International Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Awards (APICTA) held in Malaysia.

Award winners said that the awards substantiate the fact that the country is moving in the right direction regarding innovation and sophistication.

“These awards have further validated our stand that Pakistani companies are producing competitive products. This is just an acknowledgement of their hard work at an international level by reputed judges,” said Jehan Ara, the president of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), in a press briefing on Tuesday.

One of the Pakistani companies won three awards which is a record in APICTA history, she said.

“It was wonderful to hear Pakistan’s name seven times in the august gathering of over 2,000 people,” said Jawwad Ahmed Farid, the CEO of Alchemy Technologies and a former judge at APICTA events.

Dr Shoab Khan, who won an award in security applications, said that every country needs security technologies that can suit its requirements. He mentioned that the security technologies developed by them have been successfully tested in Pakistan and interest has been shown by Arab countries.

Khan, who has doctorate from Georgia Institute of Technology, said that Pakistani security technologies are low-cost, sophisticated, reliable and secure.

Other award winners emphasised that local technology companies need to market their products with a conviction that their products are the best in quality and regionally competitive.

APICTA is an international awards programme which provides networking and product benchmarking opportunities to ICT innovators and entrepreneurs from 16 countries of the Asia Pacific region.
