The city bleeds: Five killed in separate acts of violence

Mother of five tortured to death by her husband over a dispute.

KARACHI: A man lost his life and two others were injured Sunday evening when armed motorcyclists attacked a restaurant near Tariq Road. Meanwhile, four others were killed in separate acts of target killings on Sunday.

At least two assailants riding a motorcycle hurled a locally-manufactured bomb at an outlet of Red Apple restaurant located on Khalid bin Waleed Road within the limits of the Ferozabad police station. As a result of the explosion, three waiters working at the restaurant were wounded. They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment, where 40-year-old Khadim Hussain succumbed to his injuries. The other two waiters, Asif Razzak and Sadiq, were also admitted to the hospital with critical injuries.

In another incident, two men were shot dead in an act of target killing near Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi. The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Abdul Ghaffar and 40-year-old Hafeezuddin. Separately, 40-year-old Mino, was killed inside her house in Lines Area within the limits of Brigade police station. Police officials said that the deceased was a mother of five. SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said that she was allegedly tortured to death by her husband, Muhammad Buksh, over a family dispute.

In another incident, 15-year-old Gul Zaman, was killed in Shah Faisal Goth within the limits of Orangi Town police station. SHO Tanvir Murad said that the deceased was tortured to death by his relatives - Lal Shah and his two sons, Kamran and Ahmed - over a personal enmity. All three culprits have been arrested.

Separately, an alleged criminal was killed and another was arrested in injured condition during an encounter with the police in Shah Faisal Colony. A passerby was also wounded in the firing. The body and the injured were moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
