The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed scores of petitions against the requirement of affidavits from entrants to the medical profession.
Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan ruled that doctors would not be allowed to leave the country permanently during their service.
The petitioners had said that the Health Department required compulsory service affidavit from doctors. This made the doctors ineligible to obtain ex-Pakistan leave before expiry of three years.
Moreover, they were not permitted to marry a foreigner or go abroad for training.
A law officer told the court that these conditions were made part of the affidavit only to encourage doctors to serve the nation.
