Assaulted: Police constable succumbs to fatal wounds

HYDERABAD: A prison police official, who was critically injured on Tuesday evening, succumbed to his injuries later in the night at Civil Hospital, Hyderabad. The deceased was identifed as head constable Ali Muhammad Hatar.

According to the police, Hatar was in plain clothes when he was attacked near the Central Jail. Unknown assailants fired multiple shots at the constable which hit him in the head and leg. Hatar’s body was sent to his hometown of Dadu after the postmortem. He leaves behind a widow, six daughters and a son. A case has been registered against unknown assailants at PS Market under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

May turned out to be a deadly month for Hyderabad police. Six police constables have been killed in the last four weeks while two others were injured in five separate incidents. The police have yet to make any tangible progress in the investigation of these cases.
