Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday took notice of allegations against an MPA hitting a doctor at a hospital in Samundari and sought a report from the health secretary in this regard.
Dr Saeed Ahsraf of Samundari tehsil headquarters hospital told The Express Tribune that on Sunday evening, he was examining some patients when MPA Rao Kashif Raheem visited with his guards.
He said he did not get up to greet the MPA as he was busy examining patients. He said the MPA took it as insult.
“He got angry and slapped me,” the doctor said.
However, Raheem told The Express Tribune that he had not as much as touched the doctor.
“I went to the hospital after several people complained to me about the doctor,” he said.
He said the hospital staff informed the doctor of his arrival. He said the doctor snubbed them, saying he would deal with the MPA himself.
“When I asked him why he was mistreating patients and staffers, he started misbehaving,” the MPA said.
“I did not hit him but some people who were witnessing the episode did,” he said.
He said he tried to rescue the doctor from the beating.
“There is a CCTV camera at the hospital. If there is video footage of me slapping him, I will accept any punishment,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has called an emergency meeting of its general council to discuss the matter.
YDA Punjab president Javaid Aheer told The Express Tribune that the YDA would write to the Election Commission of Pakistan and seek the MPA’s suspension from the parliament.
“We will protest and boycott duties at hospitals across the Punjab if justice is not served,” he said.
Leaders of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and the Faisalabad YDA called for immediate registration of a case and the arrest of the MPA.
Speaking at a news conference, PMA president Rai Arif Hussain and YDA Faisalabad President Dr Muhamad Maroof said humiliation of doctors at the hands of parliamentarians would not be tolerated.
They also said the chief justice of Pakistan should take suo motu notice of the incident.

I cant beleive people trying to justify mpa's behaviour. Why can't we just learn the simple thing that we are not suppose to pass the judgement and give penalities by our own? There is a procedure name trial. This is the behaviour which caused two young boys death penality by people and they beat them to death and hung their bodies upside down. No matter what, we do not have any single right to pass judgements. This situation creates chaos. You guys do not know what you actually mean because what you are trying to say if someone misbehave with me I can beat him. I brought things so irrelevant to the scenerio because we have to learn to respect other humanbeings, have to learn the rights of others...
Babar you are not making any sense at all.

"We know what are told. We don’t know if the doctor was actually misbehaving with staff and patients or not. Let the facts come out."
and that justifies this incident? Who gave him the permission to take law in his hand? The thing is you are too retarded to understand what's been happening in Pakistan.
Whatever the scenario, the MPA has NO right to slap anyone!!!
Rao Kashif Rahim is really a gentleman, he visited to doctor on complaints of public.
@Affan: No we are not, we are not living in civilised society..
@Doime: I am unable to understand your pessimistic and too much biased opinion regarding doctors, and the way mpa behaved is not worthy of any civilized person.this party's attitude is like this.remember beating of bakery worker by Sharif relatives, then suspending traffic police warden because pm Sharif has to stop at a signal for a minute, then this episode, and now their one mpa even hit another pti mpa in Punjab assembly. Where will this stop? When will my peopole stand up for justice.
@Doime: We live in a civilized society(or at least we want to) where there are laws and procedure to do everything.you just cant go on giving people slaps right on their faces right in faces. Even if the doctor was doing something wrong, cant the MPA tell the police or other authorities about what wrong was happening.
Till he is proven guilty, I am with the MPA. These doctors are getting out of hand with their arrogance just because there are fewer of them than desired.
Does not matter what happened, It does not give any right to a MPA to slap or hit anyone. This mpa should be slap by the doctor in front of whole media and a suspension as a punishment and should not be allowed to election anymore
I believe we should not jump to conclusions. As far as uptil now both parties have given their respective statements expressing their view of what occurred. Now it's upto the authorities to collect and present the facts to actually who is the guilty party. Then we can speak out against the guilty party. Until then both parties are innocent until proven guilty. So we should stop slandering people without just cause.
Even if he was, I don't think it gives the MPA a right to slap him.
we are living in a country where govt. workers have more rights than others.. its terrifying ..
Power corrupts.. Absolute power corrupts absolutely... The boundaries need to be defined for Pakistani politician.. Who believe that a mandate in their favour gives then a right to play fiddle however they like!!!
We know what are told. We don't know if the doctor was actually misbehaving with staff and patients or not. Let the facts come out.
It was really pitiful and saddening to see one of the member of Parliament assaulted and injured the prestige of respected doctor who could not give protocol to power-alcoholic feudal due to agreement with Patients, power is really overwhelming .This incident defines few aspects of we rationalize it.Police are completely partial over power as well as helpless effigies, they can’t confront these pharaohs while refusing to file an FIR against the member of Parliament. The roots are poisoned! If we can't silence this violence then we are really making gruesome Pakistan.
