In a statement, Rashid said former Karachi police chief Hayat was a good police officer and had been selected by the Sindh government.
Hayat was replaced by AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo by the Sindh government on Thursday following a court order.
Rashid said it was the opinion of all sections of society that in the last 11 months, Hayat had performed remarkably and that he should remain as the Karachi police chief so that operation in the megalopolis could be taken to its logical conclusion.
The Sindh government removed Shahid Hayat on the basis of a court order, although it should not have been done, the minister said before adding the the post of AIG Karachi is grade 20/21 and could be a floating post.
Rashid said the Sindh Chief Minister should review the decision.
Noting that law and order was a provincial subject, Rashid reassured that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had taken personal notice of the disturbing situation in Karachi last year.
The information minister added that the premier had convened a meeting of the federal cabinet in Karachi and extended full support to the government of Sindh and tasked the provincial government to lead this operation. He added that in the past 10 months, the premier had reviewed progress of the operation at least 10 times.
Rashid said Rangers were also at the disposal of the provincial government and DG Rangers Sindh himself was supervising the operation.
"I assure the people of Karachi that the federal government and Prime Minister will continue to supervise this operation," he said.
Centre can’t dictate Sindh: Memon
Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Memon responded to Rashid’s assertions over the removal Hayat, saying the federal government has no right to dictate the Sindh government.
Memon clarified that the government was only following orders of Supreme Court to remove Hayat.

Both the federal and provincial govt should be responsible for law and order. I cant imagine how such an important subject such as law and order has been made an exclusive provincial subject.
shahid hayat posting was against the law...working in higher grade against his own pay and scale...if he is so efficient make him police chief of Islamabad where he is needed to control law and order
corruption party waderas can not tolerate an honest officer specially in police. Corruption party's sinned province government treats Karachi as an occupied territory fit only for loot and plunder for which it has raised liyari gang force hence would not tolerate a police officer taking action against its force
