Only a few have the knack for pursuing their passion while also paving the way for other talented individuals to prove their mettle. Rabayl Mirza is one such individual whose brand bayl reflects her flair for innovative entrepreneurship and avid interest in fashion, and provides a platform to fresh designers for showcasing their collections.
“I have always loved fashion and clothes, but I wasn’t technically strong. So, I decided that I could invest capital into works of students who have a shrewd aesthetic sense,” 28-year-old Rabayl tells The Express Tribune. “These students could be from institutes such as the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and the Asian Institute of Fashion Design.”
Through her label, Rabayl aims at providing resources and opportunities for networking to designers who aspire to bring their creations to life. “I look at the designers’ portfolios and they explain their design philosophy to me. If it is in line with my fashion aesthetic, we ask them to come on board. We pay them for their designs,” she says.
Rabayl believes she is giving upcoming designers an opportunity to shine. “It is difficult to compete with the bigwigs in the market. We give these kids the space they need to grow,” she explains.
Their first bridal collection ‘Aurelia’ is being presented by Khaled Hossayn, who is the leading designer at bayl. Inspired by the Latin Goddess of Gold, the collection exudes elegance and sophistication. The line will be showcased on Saturday in Defence.
Currently, Rabayl is focusing on couture and later plans on venturing into ready-to-wear outfits. The brand’s presence on Facebook bumps up the resale of their couture outfits, which are customised according to each client’s needs. “With time, we plan on growing online,” says Rabayl.
